A scholar of the readings, grammar and language, born in Baghdad in 520 AH, who moved to Aleppo and settled in Damascus under the Ayyubids. He read with Sibt al-Khayyat and studied language with al-Jawaliqi and grammar with Ibn al-Shajari and Ibn al-Khashshab. He tutored the Ayyubid ruler al-Mu'azzam Isa, and Alam al-Din al-Sakhawi was his student. He died in Damascus in 613 AH.
