One of the Seven Readers and the leading reciter of Medina, known by the kunya Abu Ruwaym. He read with Abu Ja'far Yazid ibn al-Qa'qa', al-A'raj, Shayba ibn Nisah and Yazid ibn Ruman. His two best-known transmitters are Qalun and Warsh, and Imam Malik also read with him. He was born in Medina around 70 AH and died there in 169 AH.
