Hud is the surah the Prophet said had turned his hair grey, and it is a sequence of communities destroyed, each told at length. Its instruction — stand firm as you were commanded — is what the greying was about.
At this pace the whole surah takes 41 study days.
Study days are days you actually sit down to memorise — miss one and the plan simply moves with you.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ الٓر ۚ كِتَٰبٌ أُحْكِمَتْ ءَايَٰتُهُۥ…وَٱلْأَصَمِّ وَٱلْبَصِيرِ وَٱلسَّمِيعِ ۚ هَلْ يَسْتَوِيَانِ مَثَلًا ۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Ask forgiveness and turn to Him; there is no creature on earth but its provision is upon Allah; and the challenge to bring ten forged surahs.
Study days 1-8
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌۭ…قَوْمُكَ مِن قَبْلِ هَٰذَا ۖ فَٱصْبِرْ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلْعَٰقِبَةَ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
The chiefs who called his followers the lowest of them; the oven that gushed; the son who said he would climb a mountain — and: he is not of your family.
Study days 9-17
وَإِلَىٰ عَادٍ أَخَاهُمْ هُودًۭا ۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ…مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَمَا هِىَ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ بِبَعِيدٍۢ
The she-camel and the three days; the guests who did not eat and the laughter of the old woman; and Lut's wish for some strong support.
Study days 17-28
وَإِلَىٰ مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًۭا ۚ قَالَ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ…فَٱعْبُدْهُ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَيْهِ ۚ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِغَٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ
The measure and the balance; the towns whose news is related to you; and good deeds that remove bad ones — so stand firm as you were commanded.
Study days 28-41
The story of Nuh here is the only place his son is mentioned, and the answer he is given about him is the surah's hardest sentence: he is not of your family.
