An-Nur legislates for what happens behind closed doors and to reputations: the punishment for adultery and for slander, the ten verses that cleared 'A'ishah, the rules of entering a house, and then the verse of light at the centre of it all.
At this pace the whole surah takes 22 study days.
Study days are days you actually sit down to memorise — miss one and the plan simply moves with you.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ سُورَةٌ أَنزَلْنَٰهَا وَفَرَضْنَٰهَا وَأَنزَلْنَا…فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابٌ حَكِيمٌ
The punishment for fornication, the eighty lashes for an unproven accusation, and the oaths of li'an between spouses.
Study days 1-4
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو بِٱلْإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌۭ مِّنكُمْ ۚ لَا تَحْسَبُوهُ…أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ مُبَرَّءُونَ مِمَّا يَقُولُونَ ۖ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ وَرِزْقٌۭ كَرِيمٌۭ
A group who spread it, the rebuke of those who repeated it without thinking — and: why did the believers not think well of their own?
Study days 4-9
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَدْخُلُوا۟ بُيُوتًا غَيْرَ بُيُوتِكُمْ…وَمَثَلًۭا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَلَوْا۟ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَمَوْعِظَةًۭ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ
Announce yourself and greet; lower the gaze; the covering; and marry off the unmarried among you.
Study days 9-12
ٱللَّهُ نُورُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ مَثَلُ نُورِهِۦ كَمِشْكَوٰةٍۢ فِيهَا…مُّبَيِّنَٰتٍۢ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍۢ مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ
The niche, the lamp, the blessed olive tree; houses He permitted to be raised; and the darknesses of a deep sea, one above another.
Study days 12-16
وَيَقُولُونَ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلرَّسُولِ وَأَطَعْنَا ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّىٰ فَرِيقٌۭ…إِلَيْهِ فَيُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌۢ
Those who say 'we obey' then turn away; the promise of succession in the land; and the three times of privacy in a home.
Study days 16-22
The verse of light sits between the law of slander and the law of privacy, which is the surah's way of saying that a household's honour and its light are the same subject.
