Al-Ikhlas was revealed when the Prophet was asked to describe his Lord's lineage. It answers in four verses that the Prophet said weigh a third of the Qur'an — two of affirmation, two of denial.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ…ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ
Say: He is Allah, the One; Allah, the Eternal Refuge whom all depend upon and who depends on none.

لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ…وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌۢ
He neither begets nor is begotten, and there is none comparable to Him.

Everything the surah denies — begetting, being begotten, having an equal — is a way of being like the things people worshipped instead.
