Al-'Alaq holds the first five verses ever revealed, and then — revealed later — the account of the man who tried to stop a slave from praying. The two halves are separated by years, which is why the tone changes so sharply.
At this pace the whole surah takes 7 study days.
Study days are days you actually sit down to memorise — miss one and the plan simply moves with you.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى…عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
Read in the name of your Lord who created — man from a clinging clot — and taught by the pen what he did not know.
Study days 1-2
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ…أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
Seeing himself as self-sufficient; and the one who forbade a servant when he prayed — does he not know that Allah sees?
Study days 2-5
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ…كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩
The threat to seize a lying, sinful forelock, the summoning of his council — and the command: prostrate, and draw near.
Study days 5-7
The first word of revelation was a command to read, addressed to a man who could not, and the first thing named after it was the pen.
