Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Sahl al-Ushnani was the chief Qur'an teacher of Baghdad and the companion of Ubayd ibn al-Sabbah, through whom he transmitted Hafs's reading from Asim. He was regarded as reliable and precise, also narrated hadith, and taught many, including Ibn Miqsam, al-Naqqash and al-Mutawwi'i. He died in Baghdad in Muharram 307 AH.
