Abu Ahmad Abd Allah ibn al-Husayn ibn Hasnun al-Samiri came from Samarra, grew up in Baghdad and settled in Egypt; he was born in 295 AH. He read with Ahmad ibn Sahl al-Ushnani and Ibn Mujahid among others, became the senior chain-holder of the readings in his time, and wrote al-Lughat fi al-Qur'an. Ibn Nafis and Faris ibn Ahmad were among his students. He died in Egypt in Muharram 386 AH.
