A Shafi'i jurist, reciter and hadith scholar from Samannud in Egypt who studied at al-Azhar and lived to nearly a hundred. Al-Jabarti called him shaykh of the readers and hadith scholars; he read the readings with Ali al-Rumayli, and his students included Muhammad al-Amir al-Kabir and Isma'il al-Mahalli. He wrote commentaries on al-Shatibiyya and al-Durra and a work on the Warsh transmission. He died in Rajab 1199 AH.
