Muhammad ibn Ahmad, Najm al-Din al-Qalqili, came from Qalqilya in Palestine, grew up in Jerusalem and then studied in Cairo. He read with Ibn al-Jazari, and Zakariyya al-Ansari read with him. He wrote Ghunyat al-murid li-ma'rifat al-itqan wa-al-tajwid, completed in 882 AH, and died after 902 AH.
