Abu Umar Hafs ibn Umar al-Duri, named after al-Dura in Baghdad, was a leading reader and grammarian who transmitted two of the canonical readings. He studied with Isma'il ibn Ja'far (transmitter of Nafi') among others; Ahmad ibn Farah and Ahmad ibn Shaykh al-Mutawwi'i took the readings from him, and Ibn Majah narrated from him. He settled in Samarra and died there.
