Taqi al-Din Abu al-Ma'ali Muhammad ibn Rafi' al-Sallami was a hadith master and historian, born in Egypt in 704 AH and taken by his father to Damascus. He moved between Egypt and Syria before settling in Damascus. He compiled a four-volume dictionary of more than a thousand of his teachers, a continuation of Ibn al-Najjar's history of Baghdad, and the book 'al-Wafayat'. He died in Damascus in 774 AH.
