Hasan ibn Muhammad Budayr al-Juraysi, a Shafi'i Azhari scholar, was called 'al-Juraysi the Elder' to distinguish him from his son Hasan al-Juraysi the Younger. He was a well-known public reciter in Cairo who received the readings and an ijazah from Ahmad al-Durri al-Tihami, and also read with Muhammad al-Mutawalli. His students included his son, Ali Subay', Ghunaym Muhammad Ghunaym and Muhammad al-Banna.
