Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahim al-Asbahani was the leading authority of his time on Warsh's transmission. He learned it from Warsh's students, including Mawwas ibn Sahl al-Ma'afiri, then settled in Baghdad and was the first to bring Warsh's reading to Iraq. Hibat Allah ibn Ja'far and Ibn Mujahid were among his students. He died in Baghdad in 296 AH.
