Biography

Abu Dawud Sulayman ibn Najah al-Umawi was an Andalusian reciter and one of the foremost students of Abu Amr al-Dani; he also studied with Abu al-Walid al-Baji and Ibn Abd al-Barr. He wrote on the orthography of the mushaf and the readings, notably Mukhtasar al-Tabyin li-Hija' al-Tanzil. He taught for many years, Ali ibn Hudhayl among his students, and died in Valencia.
