Kufan Successor (tabi'i) and the chief Qur'an teacher of Kufa. He learned the Qur'an from Uthman ibn Affan, Ali ibn Abi Talib, Zayd ibn Thabit, Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud and Ubayy ibn Ka'b, and taught in the mosque of Kufa for about forty years; Asim ibn Abi al-Najud and Yahya ibn Waththab were among his students.
