A Shafi'i hadith scholar of Damascus called the muhaddith of Syria, born there on Eid al-Fitr 1184 AH and raised by his father. He studied with about fifty shaykhs, including his father and Ahmad al-Attar, and Ahmad al-Halwani was among his students. He left a well-known thabat and died on pilgrimage in Mecca, buried in al-Ma'la.
