A blind Shafi'i reader and jurist, born in the village of Mayh in Menoufia in 1139 AH. He settled in Tanta and taught at the Ahmadi Mosque until he became the senior scholar there. He took the readings from Isma'il al-Mahalli; his son Mustafa al-Mayhi and Sulayman al-Jamzuri, author of Tuhfat al-Atfal, studied with him. He died in Tanta in 1204 AH.
