Biography

Abu Muhammad Yahya ibn al-Mubarak al-Yazidi was a Basran authority on the Qur'an readings and Arabic, born in 138 AH. He was the principal transmitter of Abu Amr ibn al-Ala's reading and studied language and prosody with al-Khalil ibn Ahmad. Abu Amr's reading spread through him, chiefly via al-Duri and al-Susi. He wrote several works on language and grammar and died in Merv in 202 AH.
