Nur al-Din Ali b. Muhammad b. Uthman al-Makhzumi al-Bilbaysi of Cairo, from a family of reciters; his grandfather was the chief reciter al-Fakhr al-Bilbaysi. He read the readings with al-Zaratiti, al-Affasi and others and taught at the al-Hakim mosque. He succeeded his father as imam of al-Azhar. Zakariyya al-Ansari read with him. He died on a Sunday in mid-Muharram 864 AH.
