Zayn al-Din Ahmad ibn Ahmad al-Sharji al-Zabidi, the leading hadith scholar of Yemen in his day, was born in Zabid in 812 AH. He studied with Ibn al-Jazari among others, and Ibn al-Dayba' was among his students. His works include Tabaqat al-Khawass and al-Tajrid al-Sarih, an abridgement of Sahih al-Bukhari. He died in Zabid in 893 AH.
