An Egyptian Shafi'i reader of al-Azhar, called al-Jurisi al-Kabir to distinguish him from his son Hasan al-Jurisi, and one of the best-known public reciters of Egypt in his day. He read the readings with Ahmad al-Durri al-Tuhami and with Muhammad al-Mutawalli. His students included Ali Subay', Ghunaym Muhammad Ghunaym and Ibrahim Sa'd Ali.
