The leading reciter of Iraq in his time, with the highest chains in the readings, and a Baghdad hadith transmitter. He read under al-Naqqash, Zayd ibn Abi Bilal and Ibn al-Bakhtari; al-Bayhaqi and al-Khatib al-Baghdadi, who praised his honesty and piety, transmitted from him. He died in Baghdad.
