A blind reader from a village near Tahta in Sohag who memorised the Qur'an young, then travelled to Alexandria and read the minor ten readings with Muhammad ibn Sabiq. He returned to Asyut, where he became its leading teacher of recitation; Shaykh Abd al-Majid Salim was among his students.
