Abu al-Walid Ma'ruf ibn Mushkan of Mecca, the city's Qur'an teacher alongside Shibl ibn Abbad, born in 100 AH to a family of the Persians sent to Yemen by Khosrau. He read to Abdullah ibn Kathir and was among those who succeeded him in Mecca. Isma'il al-Qist and Wahb ibn Wadih read to him; he has one hadith in Sunan Ibn Majah. He died in 165 AH.
