A Maliki jurist, Qur'an reader, historian and mathematician of the Banu Uthman of Kutama, born in Meknes and trained there and in Fez. He taught and preached at the Great Mosque of Meknes, then settled in Fez from 891 AH, becoming imam of al-Qarawiyyin and the leading teacher of the city. His works include al-Rawd al-Hatun on the history of Meknes, Shifa' al-Ghalil, Munyat al-Hussab and al-Ta'allul bi-Rusum al-Isnad.
