A Sijilmasa scholar and Sufi who combined law and the spiritual path, and a reader famed for tajwid in Morocco, to whom many read the Qur'anic readings. Among his students was his maternal cousin Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Mubarak al-Lamati, who learned the seven readings from him as a boy.
