Afif al-Din Uthman ibn Umar ibn Abi Bakr al-Nashiri was born in 804 AH, gathered the seven readings with Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Ash'ari before he was twenty, read the ten with Ibn al-Jazari when he came to Yemen, and also read the seven with Ali ibn Muhammad al-Shar'abi. He taught in Zabid, then at the Zahiriyya and Murshidiyya schools in Taizz, and moved to Ibb in 848 AH. Yusuf ibn Yunus al-Jaba'i read with him, he licensed his cousin Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Tayyib al-Nashiri in the seven and ten, and he wrote Idah al-Durra and Nafa'is al-Hamza among other works؛ he died of plague in Dhu al-Hijja 848 AH.
