Ahmad ibn Zayni Dahlan was a Meccan Shafi'i scholar who studied in the Haram with Uthman ibn Hasan al-Dimyati among others, and became mufti and head of the scholars of Mecca in 1288 AH. He wrote on history, creed and tajwid, including a history of the rulers of Mecca. He died in Medina and was buried in al-Baqi'.
