Biography

Imam al-Shatibi was a blind Qur'an reader born in Xativa in al-Andalus who studied the readings in Valencia with Ibn Hudhayl. He composed Hirz al-Amani (the Shatibiyya), the Aqila on Qur'anic orthography and Nazimat al-Zuhr on verse counting, then settled in Egypt and taught there; his son-in-law Ali ibn Shuja was among his students. He died in Cairo.
