Abu Amr Yahya ibn al-Harith al-Dhimari al-Ghassani was imam of the Great Mosque of Damascus and the chief Qur'an teacher of Syria in his time. He read with Abdullah ibn Amir and succeeded him as teacher, and narrated hadith from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, Wathila ibn al-Asqa' and others. He died in 145 AH under the caliph al-Mansur, aged seventy.
