Abu Umar Hafs ibn Sulayman al-Asadi of Kufa, stepson of Asim ibn Abi al-Najud and the foremost authority on his reading; he led Qur'an teaching in Kufa after Asim and also taught in Baghdad and Mecca. His transmission is the one used in most printed copies of the Qur'an today, and Ubayd ibn al-Sabbah is among his best-known students. Born 90 AH, died 180 AH.
