A hadith master, historian and jurist born in Egypt in Dhu al-Qa'da 704 AH, taken by his father to Damascus, who moved between Egypt and Syria before settling in Damascus around 739 AH, where he died. He heard from al-Dimyati, Sulayman ibn Hamza and others, and compiled a four-volume dictionary of his teachers, a continuation of Ibn al-Najjar's history of Baghdad, and al-Wafayat continuing al-Birzali's history.
