One of the imams of the Prophet's household and a leading Successor in Medina, son of al-Husayn ibn Ali, called Zayn al-Abidin and al-Sajjad for his devotion. He was at Karbala but too ill to fight, survived and was taken captive, then returned to Medina. His son was Muhammad al-Baqir; he died in Medina and was buried in al-Baqi'.
