A blind Egyptian reciter born in a village near Tahta in Sohag who memorised the Qur'an young. He took the ten minor readings from Muhammad ibn Sabiq of Alexandria and taught recitation in Asyut; his students included Abd al-Majid Salim al-Asyuti and Mahmud Uthman Farraj.
